Hike for Hope

YOUNG LIONS CANADA 2026

Developed as part of the 2026 Globe and Mail Young Lions Competition (Design category), this campaign for the Jane Goodall Institute of Canada's Hike for Hope was created in 24 hours alongside creative partner Anh Dien.

Rooted in Jane Goodall's philosophy that humans, animals, and nature are equal beings, the campaign built a visual system where nothing dominates. A minimal illustration library, a layered strip device that replicates the rhythm of a hike, and a design language consistent enough to travel across every touchpoint.

Concept

It started with a simple sketch. A trail, and everything on it just moving in the same direction. A hiker, a rabbit, a frog, a flower. Nobody leading, nobody following. That one sketch became the foundation for the whole system.

The strip grew from that trail, layered, each one a different color and angle, because everyone's at a different point on their journey. But no matter who you are or where you are, there's always something on the same strip with you. That idea carried through every touchpoint, and was designed with motion as its natural next layer.
